Applications in Architecture
The mechanical properties of PTFE glass fabrics are ideal for architectural applications. A high tensile strength enables to span huge areas without the use of a rigid supporting construction. The mechanical properties are improved using thin glass filaments (4,5 µm up to 6 µm).
Open-mesh fabrics can be laminated with a film (TFM, FEP or PTFE) on both sides. Hence, a closed fabric with a translucency up to 55 percent can be produced. PTFE and glass are both UV stable and can be used for outdoor membranes.
Advantage by reducing the Viking effect
A special impregnation of the glass fabric is reducing the Viking effect (capillary actions between the glass filaments). These fabrics repel humidity and dirt.
